Harris Gallery at the King Center for the Performing Arts

The art in the Harris Gallery of the King Center for the Performing Arts is about to change. The November exhibit will be the works of Marion S. Ott. Her daughter has generously offered the works for viewing by the public. The opening and viewing of the exhibit is scheduled for Thursday, November 6, 2008, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Please plan to attend.

Marion S. Ott (1908 to 1996) traveled with her husband to military posts in Japan and Germany in the years after World War II. While in the Far East, she studied and developed her skills in painting and flower arranging. Her aim was to combine both the traditional Chinese and Western art techniques to express her individuality. Her style combined the classic with the contemporary, thereby creating her own style with the characteristically simple flowing brush strokes of the oriental masters.

She had many one-woman shows in the Virginia, Washington, DC, and Palm Beach, Florida areas. She exhibited internationally and won many awards. In 1990, she was named distinguished artist teacher of the Sumi-e Society. At one point, she was awarded the Brumbacher Silver Medal. Her paintings are found in numerous private collections and she did many commissioned works.

Be sure to make time to see this exhibit at the opening on Thursday, November 6, 2008, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

(Thanks to Christal Wood, daughter of Marion S. Ott for the biography of her mother.)
